Streaming video, need IR over internet

I need a way to send IR commands
over the internet to control the source
for my streaming video/audio.
The source could be a cable tv box
or satellite receiver. Could also be
audio devices too.

Any help how I could do this would
be appreciated.

It's still not clear to me how to connect
it all up and what software to run.

Sorry, but I do not know much about it. We just concentrate on LCDs. There must be a forum out there that focuses on streaming video.
