Question about Parallel Lcd's

the CFAH1602B-YMC-JP model if it is...... by the way those sites that tell you how to hook up a parellel display are they not useing the serial backpack? Or are they hooking it up to the printer port?

All of the CFAH* series are "HD44780 compatible" units.

It is possible to connect them to a PC's parallel port, this thread gives a popular schematic:

With use of a serial backpack, the CFAH* series displays can be connected to a serial port. Here are some backpack suppliers:

Serial refers to the electrical signal levels and the timing. It is common to put serial interfaces on a "DB-9" connector, so people often equate the "DB-9" with serial. In the case you are referring to, it is a serial interface, but does not have a "DB-9" connector on it.

In that post were you used your Sony digital camera to show pictures of that Rambow wire. That black conector thing. Thats what I will need?

You just need to make the connections as detailed by the backpack manufacturer. You can use an IDC connector on a ribbon cable with a 2x5 0.1" center header. Solder the wires directly to the backpack, whatever you would like.
