Just bought 2 CFA-631s for my shuttle sff boxes. The only thing so far thats impressive is how fast fed x got them to me.There was no manuel .DL and installed crystal control dont have a clue how it works did the same for CC2 .Still havent got any screens to work onther then the default. No manuel, buttons that don't work lol
Don't think I'll recommend this product to any one I know .I downloaded all the drivers so it starts alright but man its a lot more useless than i would have thought.I think for my main box I'll go with a matrix orbital
Have a great day

I`ve just checked the CrystalFontz homesite where the software and full instructions are. It tells you to download and install the drivers (which you say you`ve done). Tells you how to set up the com port, (which you haven`t mentioned). So, where in this chain have you got to?

As far as CC2 goes, though its released its still 'beta', therefore not on the main web page yet. CC2 already has support for the buttons (up/down scroll of screens, plenty more options to follow), CC1 never purported to have support. Other LCD modules may do the job but will not be as wide ranging as the CrystalFontz modules with CC2 software. CC2 is fully supported in the forum so help is but a few clicks away.

Regards and best wishes from a fellow shuttle user,

Thank you for choosing the CFA-631.

If the modules are not showing up in the device manager, please follow USB installation procedure here:

http://www.crystalfontz.com/software/usb/step1.php

Once the modules are showing up device manager, then I like to use 631_WinTest for a quick functional check:

http://www.crystalfontz.com/products/631/631_WinTest.zip

Just make sure you can send data to the LCD and that it sends keystrokes back. Once that is working, then you know that your hardware is installed and functioning correctly. Just close 631_WinTest to free up the port (you can also delete it).

CC1 should be pretty easy to get going, and does show quite a few things, but it is limited and is no longer under development. If you want to use CC1 and cannot get it going, please post here:

https://forum.crystalfontz.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=14

and we will get the problem resolved.

CC2 is our current software under active development. I will be the first to admit that it may be a bit rough around the edges right now. Please download the base CC2 software from here:

https://forum.crystalfontz.com/showthread.php?threadid=3252

and follow the installation instruction here:

https://forum.crystalfontz.com/showthread.php?threadid=3251

That should get CC2 going in a base configuration. If you have any questions about the CC2 installation, please post here:

https://forum.crystalfontz.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=20

and you will receive help. CC2 makes limited use of the CFA-631's buttons "out of the box", and the CC2 team is working on more screens that make further use of the buttons.

Another option is LCD Smartie:

http://lcdsmartie.sourceforge.net/

Which is supported here:

http://sourceforge.net/forum/?group_id=122330

Once you`re up and running then we also have support for user customised screens at

User Customised Screens

where we attempt to help users by sharing our 'home brewed' CC2 screens. We sometimes undertake custom screens for people too.

Hope some of this helps,

Steve

lol the forums work well thx for the help.Got wintest workin fine so its communicating .In win test it allows to autoconfigure the fans and temp sensors why can't i do that in cc2 why do i need mbm ?? my main purpose for this thing is to monitor mb temps as both my amd 3000 is oced to 2500 and my old pentium 2.4 is at 3.2 I need most to monitor fans and temps .Hate loadin programs when the com is cumminicating already with the MB

Thx if i can get this part going only without MBM would be great.Doesn't this program get info from the bios?

CC2 can fetch the temps from MBM or SpeedFan. CC2 cannot get the temps from the BIOS.

CC2 uses MBM or SpeedFan because it would be an enormous task to track all the motherboards (and part of MBM's downfall :( ).

The fans and temps shown in 631_WinTest are for a future accessory of the CFA-631. They are not currently used.

If you look over in the CC2 forum, there are a bunch of posts detailing the configuration of CC2 and SpeedFan.

ok Thx for your quick response ,much appreciated .Still have trouble gettin any of the custom screens working the date time works great lol and the winamp one works good .The smartie program seems pretty good but then it seems you can't use any of the buttons :( It's really too bad cause it is a nice small sweet little unit .I would assume ,but i may be wrong ,that most people buy these units first of all for monitoring the MB temp and fans ,they seemed like a good idea for my shuttle boxes cause of there size and i can fit them in the slot and still have 2 drives ,with some modifications ,that is.Oh well I'll be patient :)
Thx again for your help and quick response

In support of this reply, Suddhian forum users (thousands of shuttle users) on the whole do not use the bios to control the temps/fans. The majority use Speedfan, though MBM does still have some support. Personally, I use Speedfan on my SN45G with four fans-including a 120mm external I added instead of the supplied ICE fan.

In the CC2 forum we can show you how to get full display of your temps and fans via Speedfan. Also, how to control the speeds automatically by percentage. Later we will be looking at hardware control to operate fan speeds, gaining lower noise ratios against adequate cooling.

Right, here we go. First of all go to this forum by using this hotlink

User Customised Screens

Now, look in there and you will see a thread entitled 'Screen Requests'. I have reposted an edited version of your question in there. I will answer in that forum, get you set up with Speedfan (which I think will better suit you in the long term) and then introduce you to the present screens for Speedfan. Depending on how this goes, if need be, we will construct a personal screen for your modules.

From now on, we will work from these main forums for your questions/answers.

Regards,

Steve
