The 632, 633, and 634 all can store a "boot" screen and display it automatically when power is applied.

You can do the math on the current consumption of the LCD vs the output of the solar cell, but in the end you will need a prototype to verify everything in "real-life" lighting conditions. If you got a solar cell with +12v nominal and connected it to the unregulated "POWER A" or "POWER B" pins on the 632 & 634, that may work.

That sounds like it would work for my application.

One other question, is it possible to add an infared to serial converter to an LCD? In otherwords have information sent to it by a remote control or palm pilot etc?

Are there any known such converters?
