HD44780 LCD Backlight

I got an LCD, I'm a complete Nub, how do i get the backlight to work.. I have it on the LCD.. but it doesn't come on.. do I need power to the LCD first then the back light ?

The 100 ohm pot is optional as long as Rlimit is in place.
