E/L newbie backlight question

hey,
please excuse my ignorance.

i bought a EL backlit HD44780 16x2 LCD module yesterday, and am paying for the ignorance now.

i've obviously found out that the backlight isn't just as simple as soldering the extra pins like the LED ones. (which its only got 14)

i've done a search and heard talk of needing an inverter, i was just wondering if it becomes an expensive tedious venture to get it running?
otherwise i'll just toss it and grab an LED one.

I've got working text but obviously no backlight.

its a Hantronix HDM16216H-4 if that helps.

found a solution, local website (in Oz) has on clerance a little transformer for driving an E/L backlight with a schematic.
