We just got this model CFAP1602B-Y-ECS and like the display. In the PLED type, are there any modules in this line that on Pin 3 can operate on neg 5V or do they all need pos 5V?

Pin 3 (Vbt) controls the brightness. If you set it to +5v, the display will be very bright, and the lifetime will be very short. Vbt should be set to between 2v and 3v, with 2.5v max recommended for long display life.

Pin 3 should not be driven negative.
