Building a temp sensor display

Is it possible to create a temp display (connecting a temp sensor) from any of the Crystalfontz displays, preferrably the 8x2 character displays?

I know the CFA-633 can display temperature but it does not suit my needs. I need something that does not even need to interface with the PC (via serial parallel or USB). So just provide power and display temp - feeded from a sensor.

Use a pic or atmel and a temp sensor. This would allow you to use a parallel lcd, which is cheaper than serial.
