the COM port driver install fails with:

"A service installation section in this INF is invalid"

Wintest does NOT work either

Forgive the question, but I have to ask:

Do you have administrator priveledges as the user you're installing this as?

Can you try every USB port on the machine with the device?
I have already tried numerous ports on my machine.

Is it possible that I have a service disabled that is necesary for serial communication ?

I am running a highly modified version of windows that I created with nLite, specifically for it's role as a DAW.

Is it possible, that COM may be disabled from BIOS as well ?

I think that if you created a custom version of XP that it's entirely possible that you left out something to do with plug and play, or the USB subsystem, or something of the like.

I would double check what you've got going there.

635_WinTest does not scan the ports (it only polls the one port that is selected), you have to manually select the correct port using the pull-down.
