Slow Screen Updating (634)

I have a 634 serial and I am wondering if the slow refresh rate is normal for these screens.

I am writing an LCDproc client that interfaces with XMMS and while trying to display spectrum analyzer bars, the bars flicker a lot and are barely readable. I also notice a lot of flickering during the scrolling of song text. I have slowed the scrolling as much as possible, but the redrawing of the text is still very noticable.

Is this behavior normal in Windows implementations? If not, is there something I can do to the LCD to speed it up? Thanks in advance.

The response time of the LC material is on the order of 100mS. The software should be able to update the LCD controller's memory much faster than the LC material can respond.

You would not want to clear the screen between updates.
