Basic Stamp 2sx/634 help

I have a BS2sx connected to a 634 through a basic stamp bread board. Data is supplied through Data_In and JPE is closed...I am trying to test the crystal fontz open source code for basic stamp/634 but it is displaying weird characters...I changed all of the serout 9 to serout 0 which is my output pin..It IS responding, but it makes no sense...What is going wrong?

Check the DIP switches on the back of the LCD. I've used the BS2 on the CFA-634 and it works great, oh yah, also you should wait 4 seconds after powerup before you send any information then send 2 (012) controls.:)
