Using CFAH2002A-YYH-JTV with 5V supply

In the data sheet for the CFAH2002A-YYH-JTV, you specify the voltage range in chapter “10. Electrical Characteristics” as 3.0V - 3.6V. At the same time, the maximum voltage is specified as 7V in chapter “9. Absolute Maximum Ratings”.

Is operation with 5V permissible or not?

A comparison with the data sheet for the Sitronix ST7066U controller used shows that it is suitable for both 3.3V and 5.5V.

I therefore assume that this also applies to the display?

Thank you!

Thanks for the question.

While the display can withstand up to 7V for a short time without being damaged, the recommended operating voltage is 3.0V to 3.6V.

The controller is capable of safely operating at higher voltages but the rest of the circuitry is designed around the 3.3V range.

If you are looking for a 5V version of that display, I would recommend the CFAH2002A1-YYH-JT (https://www.crystalfontz.com/product/cfah2002a1yyhjt). This display is virtually the same as the CFAH2002A-YYH-JTV that you mentioned but is designed to be driven at 5V and does require a contrast adjust circuit as shown in section 8 of the datasheet.
